Evolution

The CG9801 subfamily is found in metazoa but lost in deuterostome. Dictyostelium also has CG9801 and expanded into four members.

Domain

Metazoa CG9801s have single structural domain, phosphatase domain. One of Dictystelium phosphatases has an additional N-terminal DEP domain (Dishevelled, Egl-10 and Pleckstrin domain), which is a globular protein domain of about 80 amino acids that is found in over 50 proteins involved in G-protein signalling pathways. Another Dictystelium phosphatase has a domain partially matches to Mitofilin, which controls mitochondrial cristae morphology.

Function

The function of metazoa CG9801s is unclear. One of Dictystelium phosphatases, tipA, is involved in early development and tip formation [1].
