Phosphatase Classification: Fold PPPL: Superfamily PPPL

PPPL (PPP-Like) is a phosphatase superfamily found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. It is defined as a superfamily in SCOP, and by profile HMMs from Pfam and SUPERFAMILY. The superfamilies consists of multiple families as shown in SCOP database. Not all of the families are protein phosphatases or even phosphatases. Here, we focus on two families that dephosphorylate proteins:

  • PPP family consists of Serine/threonine-specific phosphatase.
  • PAP (purple acid phosphatase) family consists of the phosphatases that have a wide variety of substrates, including protein.
