Phosphatase Classification: Fold PPPL: Superfamily PPPL
PPPL is short for PPP like. It is used to name as MTDP, standing for MeTallo-Dependent Phosphatases, by referring to Pfam family Metallophos. But, this is not a clear naming, since the phosphatases of PPM fold also require metal ion for catalytic activity. PPPL is found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. It is named after the fold and superfamily superfamily in SCOP database. Members of the superfamily can be detected by corresponding HMMs of Pfam and SUPERFAMILY. The superfamilies consists of multiple families as shown in SCOP database. Not all of the families are protein phosphatases or even phosphatases.
