Phosphatase Classification: Fold PPPL: Superfamily PPPL

MTDP is short for MeTallo-Dependent Phosphatases. MTDP is found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. It is named after the fold and superfamily superfamily in SCOP database. Members of the superfamily can be detected by corresponding HMMs of Pfam and SUPERFAMILY. The superfamilies consists of multiple families as shown in SCOP database. Not all of the families are protein phosphatases or even phosphatases. Here, we focus on two families that dephosphorylate proteins:

  • PPP family consists of Serine/threonine-specific phosphatase.
  • PAP (purple acid phosphatase) family consists of the phosphatases that have a wide variety of substrates, including protein.
