Phosphatase Classification: Fold CC1: Superfamily CC1: Family DSP: Subfamily DSP19

DSP19 is a phosphatase subfamily widely found in eukaryotes but absent from fungi. It functions in the regulation of JNK signaling but the precise molecular mechanism is unclear.

Evolution

DSP19 subfamily is found in most eukaryotes except fungi (unpublished data from gOrtholog).

Domain

DSP19 has a single domain: phosphatase domain.

Function

Human DUSP19 (SKRP1) appears to play a specific role in the regulation of jun-kinase (JNK) signaling; however, the precise mechanism is unclear. DUSP19 interacts physically with the MAPK kinase (MAPKK) MKK7, a c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) activator, and inactivates the MAPK JNK pathway [1]. DUSP19 also interacted with the MAPKKK, apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1), but not with MAP kinase kinase kinase 1 (MEKK1) [2]
